GrantID: 68238
Grant Funding Amount Low: $125,000
Deadline: Ongoing
Grant Amount High: $125,000
Summary
This grant opportunity supports research focused on two rare, life‑impacting diseases. Awards are made to nonprofit research institutions in the U.S., primarily universities or not‑for‑profit research centers. There are two main grant categories: one for early-career researchers (“new investigators”) and another for more established research teams. The new investigator grants may provide up to about $60,000 annually for up to two years, while the investigator grants can reach as high as approximately $125,000 per year for up to three years.
The foundation is especially interested in funding basic science, translational, and clinical research that has the potential to lead to improved therapies, better understanding, and, ultimately, cures. In addition to laboratory-based work, the foundation also considers projects that drive education, awareness, and policy efforts—especially those that expand newborn screening for the two diseases. Every proposal is evaluated by a scientific advisory committee based on its significance, scientific rigor, feasibility, and alignment with the foundation’s mission.
Eligible applicants must be affiliated with a recognized nonprofit or academic institution with 501(c)(3) or similar status. The program’s semiannual application cycle begins with a Letter of Intent (due twice a year), followed by a full application for selected candidates. Grant funds support personnel, research activities, and associated project costs; they are not intended for purely administrative or fundraising use.
Recipients are required to submit progress and financial reports twice per year, to ensure the work is on track and funds are used appropriately. The benefit of this opportunity is the dual support for both emerging and experienced researchers, enabling sustained work toward breakthrough treatments. The program’s scope spans academic laboratories across the U.S., with awards in recent years exceeding $300,000 for multi-year projects.
