The state's dense population, coupled with a variety of environmental factors, exacerbates this health issue, leading to high emergency room visits and hospitalization rates among affected individuals.
In New Jersey, low-income families and communities of color are particularly hard hit by asthma. Data indicates that minority children are more likely to suffer from asthma-related complications due to poor housing conditions, limited access to healthcare, and lack of education on asthma management. Community clinics in these regions often lack the resources to provide comprehensive asthma education programs, making it difficult for families to effectively manage their condition. Furthermore, with rising healthcare costs, many families in New Jersey may be unable to afford preventative care, leading to increased reliance on emergency services.
This funding aims to directly address these barriers by supporting community-centric asthma education programs throughout New Jersey.
