This high density exacerbates the stress experienced by caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients, who often find it difficult to access resources and support due to navigating a complex healthcare system. Compounding this issue, New Jersey ranks among the states with the greatest number of cases of Alzheimer’s, with an estimated 190,000 residents currently diagnosed. Caregivers in New Jersey face a multitude of barriers including a high cost of living which limits their ability to seek external support, as well as the emotional toll of managing the needs of Alzheimer’s patients who may display challenging behaviors. Additionally, the state has a significant population of elderly residents, with approximately 19% of the population being 65 years or older. This increase in age correlates with a higher prevalence of dementia and Alzheimer’s, placing further strain on families.
